Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music)

Since saturday evening, I am staying in Darmstadt, Germany to take part as a composer in the International Summer Course for New Music.

Next to the dozens of concerts and lectures I will be attending, I am participating in the workshop No Medici, organised by the phenomenal Belgian flutist Ine Vanoeveren. For this workshop, I have composed Kobudai for alto flute. It is an amazing opportunity for young composers like me to work with a professional performer, and I’m very grateful to Ine for selecting me – next to 4 other composers – for this project!

And there’s more… Monday, I received a lesson by Pierluigi Billone, and planned are three more lessons with Brian Ferneyhough, Liza Lim and Rebecca Saunders.

These two weeks will surely be some of my most inspirational, exciting and memorable ones of 2018.

  1. Jeff says:

Personally I dislike Brian Ferneyhough’s (and other composers’) pretentious unfounded alien-styled inhumane chaotic pseudo-random material, which exists only for it’s own sake and creates sensory responses that are not of the composer’s intention, but just happen to occur.

Make no mistake: Ferneyhough is no real composer; and the fact that this has never been accordingly stated or criticized shows the times in which we live: Feed the people any rubbish, with just a hint of added intellectual superiority and they’ll believe it and worship his ‘message’.

… Ferneyhough… the charlatan king of pretentious wishful implication
